Year 6 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Class 6
Spring Term 2021
Happy New Year!
In English, we will be completing the class novel Journey to the River Sea. This will provide some writing opportunities and lots of discussion about the text.
After this, we will be starting a new novel The Unforgotten Coat by Frank Cottrell Boyce. It would be helpful if children had their own copies of this book in school, but please do not worry if they do not.
In Maths during the first half term, children will be learning about decimals, percentages and algebra.
World War Two
In this Spring Term, children will be learning about World War Two. The children will learn when and why World War Two began and find out about the key individuals and countries involved. In addition to this, they will discover all about evacuation, learn what it was like to live with food rationing, WW2 recipes and explore the contribution made by women to the war effort.
In this Science unit, children will be able to explain that we see things because of light travelling between light sources and our eyes, they will understand that light travels in straight lines. Explain that we see objects because they give out or reflect light into our eyes and use the idea of light travelling in straight lines to explain why objects and shadows of objects are the same shape.
Come and See
In this topic called Sources, children will be thinking about the Bible as the story of God’s love told by the People of God. Children will be learning about Scripture references and will practise finding Scripture references in the Bible.
In the first Spring term, children will be taking part in gymnastics. They will be developing flexibility, strength, technique, control, and balance. It is important that children have their full P.E kit in school always.
Children are expected to read every night. Please ask your child questions about what they have read in order to check their understanding and complete the reading record.
Maths homework is set on a Friday and is due in on a Monday and will be set on MyMaths.
English homework is set on Friday and is due in on the following Friday.
Children will be bringing home a RWI log book everynight. They will log spellings in this which they have to practise and learn at home. They will then need to bring the logbook back to school.
Children will also have spellings to practise on Spelling Shed. Children have also got the Year 5 and 6 spelling list stuck in their purple homework books. These spellings need to be practised at home.
This is a really important year for the children. I would appreciate your full support with encouraging your children to complete all pieces of homework, reading daily and learning times tables and spellings.
Many thanks for your continued support.
Miss Hinchley, Mrs Hulse and Mrs Rimmer.
