Year 4 2020 - 2021

Mr Chapman

Welcome to Year 4!
Spring Term 2021

Welcome back to the spring term Year 4!

We have a very busy half term in store but I am sure that you will all rise to the challenge!

ENGLISH We are going to be investigating the features of a newspaper report with the aim of eventually writing our own. We will be using the book The Iron Man by Ted Hughes as a basis for our work this half term.

MATHS.As a school we are still  following the White Rose materials. They have incorporated some of the objectives missed from last year into their current lessons so hopefully the children will be able to cover all of the necessary work. The small steps that we are covering in maths can also be found on the maths shed website with activities and quizzes to help reinforce learning.

Our maths topics this term are Multiplication and Division - Measurement - area and Fractions.

RE - We will be covering 'Community', 'Giving and Receiving' and 'Self Discipline.' I also hope to re teach part of the year 3 Reconciliation topic to help with our Sacramental preparation.

In PE we will be covering Dance based on Cats the musical. We are also going to be going swimming each Wednesday so will need Swimming kits in school each Wednesday-(Violins changed to a Thursday) please make sure children have their indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day and clearly labelled.

SCIENCE this term covers Eating and digestion and sound. I'm sure that the children will love to find out more about what happens to our food when we eat it!

GEOGRAPHY - this term our focus is on geography, we will be learning about our European Neighbours followed by learning about the countries of the world.

As ever, if you are in any way concerned or worried about anything then please feel free to contact me on class dojo or through the school app.

Miss Mawtus, Mrs Loveless and Mrs Cartwright.

Please make sure that your child is reading every day at home for at least 15 minutes.

He/she should complete 2 lessons a week on Reading Eggspress.

Ed Shed has spelling and maths activities. My Maths homework is also given.

Please make sure your child is ready for the multiplication check by helping him/her to learn the times tables well and using the multiplication check game on Maths Shed.
