Year 5 2020 - 2021

Mr Chapman

Welcome to Year 5

Summer Term

During this term, we will be basing much of our English work on the novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K.Rowling and the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare. We will also be reading Hidden Figures and Kensuke's Kingdom.

For Maths, we will be using the White Rose scheme.

These are the topics for the Summer term.

Our Come and See topics are Transformation, Freedom and Responsibility and Stewardship.

In Science lessons we will be learning about Materials, Space and Forces.

The Ancient Greeks and the Maya are our History topics for this term. For Geography our topics are Extreme Earth and Mountains.

In our P.E. lessons this term, we will be covering athletics and rounders.

Please listen to your child reading a few pages from their home reading book every night. Children should complete 2 lessons on Reading Eggspress each week at home.

Please help your child to learn the spelling lists. This will really help them with their writing in school. Your child can also use Spelling Shed at home to help them to master these spellings. I will update these lists regularly with the spellings we are covering in class. Most children still need to continue to work on stage 3 and 4 spellings but should be beginning to learn the stage 5 and 6 lists as well.

Maths homework will be set on My Maths. Your child should also use Maths Shed daily to improve their speed at recalling the times tables and number bonds. They can also use the link below to Hit the Button. It is really important that your child knows the times tables well. Please help them to learn these by doing a little with them every day and ensuring that they use these websites to try to beat their scores.
