Live Simply
The Live Simply Award
The Live Simply Award is a special recognition for schools that strive to live out the values of simplicity, kindness, and stewardship of God's creation. At St George's, we are proud to be starting this journey that encourages students and staff to embrace a way of life that focuses on caring for one another, respecting the environment, and living in harmony with God's world.
We hope to earn the Live Simply Award by, committing to making choices that reflect our faith, promoting sustainability, and helping our community grow in love and compassion. Working towards this award reminds us that even small actions, like reducing waste, helping those in need, and living in gratitude, can have a big impact on our world and the lives of others.
Dress as a cow day!
March 24
Our Lenten aim was to buy a cow....the children have decided to use the CAFOD World Gifts appeal to live in solidarity with people who need our support. Many thanks to Dympna from CAFOD for starting our fundraising off with a 'marvelous moo cow' assembly.
We dressed up like a cow for the day (Their suggestion!) and sent out Cafod boxes to help collect the money - the response was amazing!
Our children raised a whopping £504 for CAFOD so we bought 3 cows, some chickens, a goat and a queen bee!

Spirit Squad decided that this year we would send food to the Liverpool foodbank because Jacob's nan worked there and said they were running really low on food. She was shocked when she came to collect our donations and sent us a lovely letter thanking us for a remarkable effort. She needed a bigger car! What incredibly generous families we have!
Recycling
We are starting our Live Simply journey by completing an audit of ways in which we recycle at St George's. With support from the school council and the eco council we realised that we were not recycling very much and that there was a lot of waste from our school. They decided to do something about it.
Each class now has a designated recycling bin in the classroom and we have a huge blue paper bin from Sefton Council. We have also started to collect used batteries and filled the boxes already. We still have a long way to go but we have started!
Tree Planting
Over the last few years we have been trying to support and enhance our local environment. With support from Friends of Maghull - Frank Sharpe and Ben from Mersey Forest we have planted hundreds of trees around Maghull.
We have also planted 2500 in our school grounds, creating a hedge around the perimeter of the school and a pathway through the school field with some standard trees.
Superlambanana!
Year 4 were invited to the unveiling of Maghull's Superlambanana as thanks for all our hard work with the tree planting. A chilly afternoon but with the added bonus of a meet and greet from Santa!
Queen's Jubilee award!
Nov 22
This morning some of our children had the privilege of meeting the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and helping him to plant a tree that came from the 'Tree of Trees', a huge art project outside Buckingham Palace for the jubilee! This is one of only 350 trees given out in recognition for community planting in Maghull!
