Maths

At St. George's we value the importance of providing children with a secure mathematical foundation in the Early Years.  We provide a range of adult-led activities and provocations to encourage exploration of number, shape and space, as well as supporting children in their play by reinforcing key concepts.  Children are able to recognise amounts without counting (known as subitising) and they are able to make their own representations of numbers and amounts, as well as using available resorces to find all the different ways of making numbers 3, 4 and 5.  This investment enables our children to start school with a range of mathematical skills and knowledge and sets them off on the best possible start.
