Phonics

We are passionate about providing children with high-quality phonic sessions and we teach Phase 1 directly during short daily inputs.  The children are given a solid foundation to Phonics and staff work closely with parents to ensure that children are confident and accurate with all aspects in Phase 1, so that they are ready to make accelerated progress as they enter Reception.

Each day, children work one to one with an adult to learn the sounds in their name and from the two images, it is clear to see the super progress that our children make with this skill.  Many children enter Nursery with low fine motor skills and pencil grip, but even now, the majority are now able to accurately write their name without visual support.

Phase 1 is divided into seven aspects:

• Aspect 1 –General sound discrimination – environmental

• Aspect 2 –General sound discrimination – instrumental sounds

• Aspect 3 –General sound discrimination – body percussion

• Aspect 4 – Rhythm and rhyme

• Aspect 5 –Alliteration

• Aspect 6 –Voice sounds

• Aspect 7 – Oral blending and segmenting

Below you will find links to videos and games that will help your child develop their listening skills as well as practice their rhyming skills.

The first video is the 'Song of Sounds' song that the children will learn at nursery to help them learn the sounds that each letter of the alphabet makes.
