Forest School

At St George's we are very lucky to have our very own small woodland area at the back of the school field. Here we hold our Forest School sessions and complete activities such as nature craft, bush craft, knot and survival skills. We also have the opportunity to use a range of tools such as knives, saws, hand drills and loppers. We have the opportunity to learn about fire safety and cooking on our very own fire pit.

Reception children will have a weekly Forest School session throughout the year.

After school sessions will be running when the nights get a little lighter and will be on a first come first served basis. Each club will run for 6 weeks before we swap to allow different children the opportunity.

Forest School sessions are run by a newly qualified level 3 Forest School leader.

Key Information

New after school club sessions to start after the Easter holidays. A letter will be sent home next week for the children to sign up. If you would like your child to take part in our Forest School club then please take time to watch the power point presentation so that you are aware of the nature of the activities we do. If you have any questions please see Miss Mawtus.

Forest School Handbook

We rely on a high ratio of adults to children when running our Forest School. Due to the nature of the activities on offer such as tool work and having an open fire it is important that we have as many adults as possible to maintain the safety of all involved. We ask that all adult helpers read the handbook carefully before agreeing to help us. This handbook details all the rules and policies that are in place when running a Forest School. It is important that these policies are clearly followed by all adults and children. Once adult helpers are happy with the policies and have had a few sessions with us, they will need to undertake a DBS check through school.

Please see Miss Mawtus if you would like to visit our forest site or volunteer to be an adult helper. We need adults for a Wednesday morning, afternoon and also for our after school club Wed 3.30-5.30.
