Welcome to Year 5!
Y5 is an important year where children are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning, developing the skills of resilience and independence. We have an exciting, action-packed curriculum, with lots of interesting things to discover and learn.
Homework is set on a Friday to be returned no later than Wednesday the following week. Children will receive extra housepoints for bringing it back early. Some homework, such as my maths, requires an internet connection. Children are allowed to access the computers in school if this is a problem at home.
Reading is key to children's progress in all areas of learning and so children are asked to read regularly. They are now able to take a quiz on their reading book and see how much they have understood. Please support your child with this. Reading out loud also increases a child's fluency so they benefit immensely from being heard read.
PE is a compulsory part of the curriculum so please ensure your child has a full kit in school. This term swimming is on a Tuesday afternoon up until Christmas and multi-skills is on a Monday and Friday. Please be aware that Sefton will not allow any children to wear ear rings for swimming when they go with the school.
