Terracycle / Recycling

St George's have registered with Terracycle and are a public drop-off location for 'The Colgate Oral Care Recycling Programme'.  (Take a look at the photo and poster below to see the waste that is accepted as part of this programme.)

For each kilogram of waste that we collect, we will be rewarded with 100 Terracycle points, with each point being worth 1 penny.  The minimum weight of packaging that needs to be collected before it can be sent in to be recycled is 6kg, so we really need your support to help us to get to our 6kg target!

Terracycle have lots of different recycling programmes and although we are only registered collectors for empty toothpaste tubes and used toothbrushes, St George's Eco Council will also be encouraging recycling of crisp packets and yogurt pouches from packed lunches, as well as pens from the classrooms. (Unfortunately, due to space constraints, we will not be accepting donations of crisp packets into school from home, but please check out the Terracycle website for the nearest public drop off location).

We will also be recycling used batteries at school to send to 'BatteryBack.org'. We have filled 3 tubs so far and have started on our 4th!

Each Classroom now also has a new recycling bin for paper, cardboard and plastic and the Eco Council members in each class will be encouraging their peers to recycle. There is also a recycling bin in the photocopy room to ensure staff recycle too.

Can Everything Be Recycled? Welcome to TerraCycle

Paper and plastic bottles typically come to mind when we think about recycling, but they're only a fraction of our waste
