EYFS Revised Curriculum

Staff at St. George's Nursery are very excited to be working with an updated Early Years framework, which places much value on providing children with a broad  curriculum, that offers children with enriching experiences.  The government have introduced  changes in order to "improve outcomes at age 5, particularly in early language and literacy" (GOV.UK)  At St. George's Nursery, we are passionate about the development of children's langauge and we are very privileged to have weekly access to a very experienced Speech and Language therapist, who is active in supporting staff to implement effective language programmes and activities.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (2021) and Development Matters, which supports our practitioners to implement a high-quality and research-informed curriculum.

The Curriculum is divided into seven areas:

The Prime Areas

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific Areas

Literacy

Maths

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

Four guiding principles shape the practice and culuture in our setting.  These are:

  1. Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  2. Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
  3. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time.
  4. Children develop and learn at different rates.  We will work hard to respond to each child's individual needs and strengths, so that they can make the best possible start to their school life.

We are very proud of what we offer our children and their families and we welcome visitors at any time.  Please arrange a visit through Mrs Jones, our school bursar and we will be happy to share with you what we offer our children and their families.
